Rea Teaches

In this 2.5 hour workshop, you’ll explore the way the alcohol-based inks behave on synthetic paper. We’ll pour from bottles, paint with brushes, and spritz, spray and blow the inks.

You’ll learn how to reactivate the inks with more alcohol or ink-based markers, to get it flowing again. We’ll learn the value of diluting the inks for a dreamy, gradient effect, and how to blow on it through a straw to create effect. The unique nature of these inks and how they dry on the nonabsorbent paper is magical. You’ll learn to embrace patience, while you give the inks a minute or two to actually settle and dry in place before continuing.

We’ll start on a small piece, so you can understand the inks’ personalities, then move on to larger pieces. You’ll get up to 5 papers to work on, in increasing sizes. Because the inks are incredibly dense, I’ve used my experience to mix some custom diluted colours.

All materials will be supplied: gloves, aprons, inks, synthetic papers, brushes, markers, alcohol in spray and squirt bottles, and straws for blowing the inks and alcohol around.

This is tons of non-toxic fun. No art experience is necessary.
